Rail transport in July 2023
More than 31.3 m passengers travelled by rail in July this year, which is an increase by 2.7% year-on-year. This is also the highest number of rail passengers recorded in July in the Office of Rail Transport statistics in the last decade. The total weight of goods transported by rail was 18.7 m tonnes. This is a decrease by 10.6% compared to July 2022.

Employment in rail sector in Poland in 2022
In 2022 90,498 people worked in rail sector in Poland, which is 699 more than the year before. An increase in the number of employees was recorded both by passenger and freight operators, while a decrease was registered by infrastructure managers.

Report on the rail transport market operations in 2022
342.2 m passengers and 248.6 m tonnes of goods transported – these are the basic transport results in rail sector in Poland in 2022. The “Report on the rail transport market operations in 2022”, published by the Office of Rail Transport, provides data and conclusions on the rail sector in Poland. Passenger carriers recorded record-breaking volumes over the past decade, while freight and intermodal transport volumes dropped. The report also provides a summary of rail transport data from the past 20 years.

Workshop on sustainable mobility
The Office of Rail Transport hosted a workshop on solutions in rail sector to support sustainable mobility. The participants discussed offers addressed to employers and solutions applied at railway stations to facilitate use of bicycles and co-sharing. The representatives of rail carriers and PKP S.A. took part in the meeting.

Wrocław Główny is the most popular station in Poland for the third year in a row
Wrocław Główny recorded the highest passenger exchange of all stations in Poland for the third consecutive year in 2022. The station handled a total of 26.4 m passengers. It is an increase by 54% compared to 2021, when 17.11 m passengers were recorded there. Poznań Główny came second, as it did a year ago, while Kraków Główny was third. The station where the highest number of train stopped was Warszawa Wschodnia. Only there and at Warszawa Zachodnia station an average of more than 30 trains stops per hour.

Intermodal transport in 1Q 2023
In 1Q 2023 5.8 m tonnes of goods were transported by intermodal rail operators. The transport performance amounted to nearly 1.9 bn tonne-km. When compared to 1Q 2022, intermodal transport performance decreased by 12%.

Third party liability insurance in Poland
Rail companies intending to carry out transport operations within the territory of the Member State of the European Union or the European Economic Area are obliged to have insurance cover under the conditions provided for in the regulations established by these states. The European countries are free to lay down the conditions for the insurance of rail operators.

Train punctuality in Q1 2023.
In 1Q 2023 almost 91% passenger trains and over 48% of freight trains arrived on time at their destination. In total, operators ran nearly 572.4 thousand trains – more than 466.3 thousand passenger trains and nearly 106.1 thousand freight trains.

Office of Rail Transport approved price list of the Pomeranian Metropolitan Railway for 2023/2024 timetable
The President of the Office of Rail Transport approved the draft price list in the part on the method of calculation of unit rate of basic charge for the train timetable 2023/2024. The infrastructure manager introduces in the new price list the part of the rate depending on electric traction.

Narrow gauge railways in Poland in 2022
In 2022 in Poland 24 narrow gauge railways carried 880,900 passengers - slightly less (-1.1%) than the year before. For 12 narrow gauge railways, 2022 was a better year than 2021 in terms of passenger numbers.
