06.04.2020

27.5 million passengers and 18.1 million tonnes of goods were transported by rail in February of this year. In comparison to the corresponding period of 2019 this means a rise by 9.3% in the number of passengers and a decline by 4.9% in the weight of transported goods.

In February railway carriers transported 27.5 million passengers. Transfer service amounted to 1.7 billion passenger-kilometres and operational service - to 14.3 million train-kilometres. This meant a rise - in comparison to February of 2019 - by 9.3%, 5.7% and 9.3% respectively. Average travel distance of one passenger reached a level of 62 km.

In the first two months of this year 56 million passengers were transported, the value of transfer service came to 3.4 billion passenger-kilometres and operational service - to 29.7 million train-kilometres. Thus all these numbers rose by 8.4%, 5.7% and 7.9% respectively.

- The results of passenger transfers in January and February were optimistic. However in the coming months all carriers will be forced to a great extent to bring the transfer numbers back to the level from before the epidemic - claims Mr. Ignacy Góra, Ph.D., the President of the Office of Rail Transport.

In February of 2020 18.1 million tonnes of goods were transported, transfer service reached the level of 4.1 billion tonne-kilometres and operational service - 6.1 million train-kilometres. These numbers were lower than in the corresponding period of last year by 4.9%, 8.3% and 6.2% respectively. Average distance of one transported tonne of goods amounted to 229 km.

In the first two months of 2020 almost 35.5 million tonnes of goods were transported, transfer service came to a little over 8 billion tonne-kilometres, and operational service - to almost 12 million train-kilometres. This means a decline by 8.3%, 11.4% and 9.2% respectively in comparison to the first two months of last year.
