The amendment to the Railway Transport Act 2003 introducing the new form of exams for train drivers contains transitional provisions. The candidates for train drivers who are already in training or taking an exam on the day the new rules come into force will complete the training and examination process under the old rules.
Exam for train driver’s licence
In the case of exams for train driver’s licences, those who are still in training on 1st January 2023 will take the exam under the current rules, i.e. at the training and examination centre that is conducting their training. The others will take the exam under the new rules: it will be a computer-based test conducted at the Examination and Monitoring Centre for Train Drivers in Warsaw. Both groups will only be able to take the examination for the train driver's certificate under the new rules.
Exam for train driver’s certificate
For those who started their train driver's certificate course before the entry into force of the amended legislation, the exam for the train driver's certificate will take place under the current rules, if the training programme has been completed and the exam conducted by the end of 2023.
Those who started training for the train driver's certificate before 1st January 2023, but will complete it after 1st January 2024, will take the exam for the train driver's certificate under the new rules.
The exam for the train driver's certificate conducted by the President of the Office of Rail Transport will consist of a computer-based test, driving on a simulator at the Centre and a practical test on a railway vehicle.
All candidates who undertake training after 1st January 2023 will take the exam under the new rules.
