First single safety certificate for Polish operator issued

29.03.2021

On Thursday, March 25, the President of the Office of Rail Transport signed the first single safety certificate for a Polish rail operator. The document was issued in accordance with the new rules set in the 4th Railway Package. It was processed via the One-Stop Shop (OSS) - an IT tool developed and maintained by European Union Agency for Railways.

A single safety certificate for Koleje Śląskie sp.z o.o. is the first decision issued by the President of the Office of Rail Transport via the One-Stop Shop (OSS). It is also the first single safety certificate issued by the President of the Office of Rail Transport. This certificate is also unique as it covers border stations in the Czech Republic and required detailed arrangements with the Czech NSA, Drážní Úřad. - This is a historic moment for the Polish railway market and a milestone in practical implementation of the regulations of the 4th Railway Package in our country - says Ignacy Góra, President of the Office of Rail Transport.

A single safety certificate is a document issued to a railway undertaking and replaces thus far issued safety certificates Part A and Part B. It confirms the fulfilment of new requirements for safety management systems set in the Regulation 2018/762. The process of obtaining a single safety certificate is different, as all correspondence is submitted via the OSS. This certificate allows the carrier to access border stations in the Czech Republic while respecting relevant requirements of infrastructure managers.

A single safety certificate is valid for 5 years.
